Shopping in Petworth

Are you planning a day out with a friend? Well here in Petworth there is so much to offer.

Petworth is known for its perfectly preserved buildings and streets which is nestled in the heart of the South Downs National Park. Steeped in history, Petworth has been voted Best Antiques Town and has links to the famous artist JMW Turner, a frequent visitor to Petworth House (National Trust) which is another escape to visit!

We are so fortunate enough to have our beautiful Pop-Up shop right in the middle of the town which we is situated on what was the original Highstreet of the town.

Every shop in town bar the hardware shop and chemist are run completely independently.

What you will find when you come to shop in this town is a huge variety of incredible antique shops including the Antiques Market situated on East Street which hosts an array of sellers offering something for every taste and budget (we would need a separate blog to tell you about each antique shop as there is so many). So all you need to know and be assured when you shop in Petworth you will find some incredible antiques steeping in history and taste.

Petworth town also hosts some more modern furniture shops including Cathy’s very own Maggie & Belle – selling beautiful furniture, homewares, lighting and gifts which you will find situated in a prime spot between the hardware shop and chemist. Its defiantly worth a visit along with Oak Apple and Bone on your travels too.

We have the best lady’s lingerie shop! Guilt! Here you will find the most luxurious garments for feeling your best!

Then you have the notorious men’s wear shop Allen’s – for all your pink trouser and striped sock needs!

Petworth Book shop – a beautiful independent book shop filled to the brim with the latest novels and fiction. The smell coming from the newly printed pages that hits you as you walk in the door in itself is just worth a visit if you like books, and if you love books you will know what we mean and if you really love books, we have the most beautiful second-hand bookshop off market square as well.

Spriggs florist – selling freshly cut flowers and plants – the buildings door is just worth some appreciation.

Hennings Wine shop – We would like to say we are not familiar with this establishment but that would be a big untruth – you will find the most incredibly sourced wines here with the staff so knowledgeable on all things grape – and you will get some beautifully priced bottles too!

Ladies fashion is something of thing here besides Antiques in Petworth – Sorella clothing is now moving into what was “Twenty” – then we have also on East street have Gi Gi Boutique And round the corner the most fantastic ladies second hand shop L' eternal and Lilly boutique! These shops provide you with not only clothing but shoes and accessories!

And then you have Petworth Country Gift and clothing – go go go – just for the experience of seeing so much in one shop and if you don’t purchase one random thing, we will eat our words!

If you’re an art lover, you are in luck too – we have galleries galore offering both contemporary to the more traditional works of art. We love them all but if you want to walk along the famous cobbled Lombard Street you will find Forest gallery and the Kevis House Gallery.

There is so much more here in the way of shops, you will just have to see for yourself.

So Coffee, Cake, Sandwiches Pub Grub – it’s all here as well! We have a selection of cafes to choose from along with two pubs and the notorious Hungry Guest poshes supermarket! That offers take away coffees, pastries, sandwich’s, and lots more – it even has its own cheese room.

However, if you’re looking to dine in, we have the most gorgeous Tiffin’s situated stone’s throw from our shop – we love their fine bone China mugs! Defiantly makes the coffee taste good along with beautiful homemade cakes. Or if you here over a weekend there is the beautiful Coco lounge (it closes during the week) or if you’re in need of some fresh air we have Cherry’s bakery and the Hungry Guest café located at either ends of the car park.

Looking for some pub grub instead? Then we have the Star in market square or a short walk from town the Angel Inn pub offering a beautiful patio and walled garden serving delicious locally sauced food.

Petworth has so much to offer, and we haven’t even spoken about the historic Petworth House! Which we will at some point in another blog, however we do have to mention the fact we are now proud to be hosting our second Christmas market with them. This year it will be held in the Servant’s Quarter & Battery House – taking place on the 2nd & 3rd of December 2023 where you can Christmas shop till you drop from 44 independent makers and creators and eat and drink pizza, gin, coffee and cake!

Here in town we are still one of the few places where on street parking is free for one hour or the main carpark offers your first free hour for free, then charges are extremely reasonable you just need a degree in parking metres to work the machine, so note down your registration plate!

Visiting Petworth will not only be a beautiful day out – it will also be a fantastic opportunity to support so many incredible independent businesses – boosting the local economy and keeping money out of Jeff Bezos pocket as we are all guilty of that one click on amazon.

If you do visit us we would love to hear your thoughts and feedback!

Shopping small is just the best!

Have a great day x
