Charlie Todman Ceramics
For many years I was a secondary school Maths teacher, until I left the classroom in 2021 to pursue a more creative life path having built my studio in the garden using wooden pallets! All work is created at my home studio in Uckfield and I have spent many happy hours here working on new ideas and pushing the boundaries of clay over the last few years. My functional ware is made using stoneware clay, and is glazed using a combination of glazes that I mix myself, before being fired in my electric kiln.
In addition to functional pieces, I love to use alternative firing methods (pit, raku and saggar firing) to create purely decorative works and jewellery. These methods of firing bring challenges with their unpredictability and I thoroughly enjoy developing my processes in order to create a level of order in the design emerging from the chaos of the fire.
